確か私が中学時代に、英語の勉強にこのマイフェアレディの英語版を買いました。その時以来、何度見たでしょうか。オードリーの可愛い事、レックスハリスンの演じるヒギンズ教授から英国紳士はこうなのだと教えられました。原作は、ピグマリオン。階級社会である英国には、このような話が成立すると住んでみて実感します。イーストエンダーのコックニー訛りの英語は掛詞があったりして本当に解りません。オックスブリッジの英語も解り辛いです。言葉が階級、出自を今でも反映した国です。監督は、フィラデルフィア物語、ガス燈、椿姫のジョージキューカー。6月にアスコット競馬が開かれます、コベントガーデンにはイライザは居ませんが、歌声は流れています。プリテーウーマン、エディマーフィの映画を見るたびこのマイフェアレディを思い出してしまいます。若いスタンレーハロウエイも出ています。ヘップバーンの可憐さは永遠ですね。
2 On the street where you live 2007/7/24
Professor Henry Higgins who specializes in the English language makes a bet with Colonel Hugh Pickering that he can take someone who speaks with a lower-class language and by correcting the speech can pass off as upper-class or royalty. Overhearing this bet is a flower girl Eliza Doolittle ; she wants to work a flower stand. But they will not take her unless she can speak more “genteel”. Professor Higgins takes up the challenge.

This is a musical version of the movie Pygmalion , based on a play by George Bernard Shaw.
As people find that music and movies bring memories of the time in which they heard or viewed it. His movie has a meaning to me as I too was in love and found my self singing “On the street where you live.” One of the strengths of the movie is that many of the songs instead of being classical and just stuffed into at odd times actually are songs that you would initiate in your life and they did so in the lives of the characters in the movie.

思ったほどは退屈じゃなかったが・・・ 2008/1/12
原作戯曲「ピグマリオン」が面白かったので、見てみた。
見る前から、嫌な予感。ヘプバーンが苦手、ミュージカルが苦手、3時間近くある、と。
しかし、もっと退屈すると思ったらそうでもなかった。しかし、原作読んでなかったら、ストーリーを追う気にもならなかったろうな。花売り娘とか言語学者というキャラがあまりうまく映像化されてないように思えるし、イライザが変貌したように見えないのが難点。
競馬場のシーンは、上流階級の人たちが皆モノトーンの服を着てるのが、ひんやりした雰囲気で、非凡なセンスを感じさせた。
